Doctor Who...

I just watched "The Girl in the Fireplace"... and it was weird.
Really. I didn't dislike it, or like it. It was just weird and felt... off. Reinette was cool, and Rose was compassionate as always (what's up with the Rose being portrayed as jealous in fic? She and Reinette were the good parts of this ep! I love that she was concerned about how Reinette was taking the whole thing), but the Doctor again did not do it for me. I didn't get the whole him being in love with her thing -- it just didn't seem to fit, and his always running off without telling his companions irritated me, only to be eclipsed by his asking a figure from history to join him on his travels... if an ordinary person like Pete can make that much of a difference, what about someone who's notable?
And Poor Mickey! What an awkward first trip out, being abandoned by the designated driver. Please don't compare a horse to Mickey, Doctor, especially when YOU were the one to let him come along. Nine didn't leave Rose behind when she was trapped with the shields breaking, so don't leave Mickey (and Rose) either.
And again, I'd like to know why the droids a) chose Reinette (and why a ship named after a French mistress in the 51st century?) and b) thought Rose was compatible.
I want to like Ten as much as I love Nine. But it's not happening yet!
But funniest part? "She always did work too hard." She was a courtesan. A mistress. So that line, coming from her lover? Makes me giggle terribly. Hee.

I don't like Ten as much as Nine. I don't think I ever will. But I like him well enough to keep watching.

Heh! Though I think it's actually true, in this case. She was educated and involved in politics and kept the court running in a lot of ways. And if I remember correctly, was even friendly with the queen, too.
(huh, I wonder if I should check wikipedia... or if I should believe what wikipedia says. heh)

Date: 2009-05-13 01:28 am (UTC)I don't think Rose is jealous so much as freaked out throughout the ep, especially coming after "School Reunion." I think she's seriously questioning whether this Doctor is the same, and if she should stay with him. I just don't think Nine would've done it the same way... he always felt more responsible for Rose's well-being, to me (and whoever else was traveling with him, though Rose was number one).
Plus, is it wrong that I found that Reinette/Ten romance kind of creepy, since she went from being a little girl freaked out at the crazy guy in her fireplace to being all into him at no time at all? It was such hero worship, and it irritated me to no end. I like how in Season 1, Rose would call Nine on his crap even if she did admire him.
