Tonight's BSG...
I hope this season gets better. I was all excited at the start, only to be rather let down and ambivalent about the rest of the season.
Here's me trying to gather my thoughts:
First off, Dee and her death... now, Dee was never a favorite character of mine. She actually never appealed to me, and her and Lee? No thanks. I think they brought out the bland in each other. (As opposed to Sam and Kara who exude hotness... hee). That said, she deserved a far better death than she got.
In the first 10 minutes alone, we got more Dee screen time than we did in all of 4.0. That said, we see her rekindling things with Lee, and then BAM goes the gunshot. Her last moments were written in terms of her relationship with Lee all over again... it drives me nuts that they do this to the secondary female characters on the show... they're always seen in terms of the men in their lives. And even in the writing of her last moments alive, it was all about her and Lee. I hate that, and I resent not that they killed her off (I understand that so many dreams and hopes are shattered), but that they made the last moments of her life all about her and Lee. Not cool.
As for Adama, I'm tired. I'm tired of the self-pitying... I know I should be more sympathetic, but I'm tired of him not being a commander and a leader to his people, and for always sulking off and refusing to step up. I adore Tigh for kicking his ass, and I hope the lesson sticks. I'm all for Roslin freaking out and burning her book because yeah, her whole belief system is gone... but Adama was never a huge believer in the prophecy and knew it was a gamble at best. I'm also tired of Lee, but I"ve been tired of him since season 2.5, I think. Oh Adama boys...
Holy crap, Kara... KARA WAS ON MY TV! Yes, I was that excited to see her and Leoben's march into the woods... only to be totally horrified/intrigued by what they found. So the Kara we knew -- her body -- is dead, and what does that mean? She was reborn, but not as a cylon... so what is she? I hope there's good payoff to all this, but can I also say that I've never been so shocked as when Leoben RAN from her. Have you ever seen Leoben leave/run away from Kara? That's when you know things are crazy. And I don't think she should tell Lee, but she should tell Sam... I'm worried about how Lee will react.
Speaking of crazy, Ellen's the final cylon... not entirely surprising, since my main four candidates were Dee, Ellen, Roslin and Kara. I wonder what it means that Ellen and Tigh were reborn together again and again, and yet she cheated on him. Puts a weird twist on the love story angle. Are they going to find her? And will they pronounce her name so that it actually sounds like "Ellen" and not "Helen?"
That's all I got so far...

Date: 2009-01-17 12:52 pm (UTC)It was a little bit funny watching him shit in his pants but the seriousness of Kara's plight made it tragic too. I think maybe having Adama self wallowing, Sam bonding closer with his Cylon-ness, Leoben abandoning Kara and Lee emoing in guilt and grief was a way to let the audience know Kara's not going to have any supports during this. I'm worried about her the most!

I dunno... it seems like I've been watching the show unfold in dread. Like it's not anticipation that pushes me to watch but me covering my face and going "OH CRAP. WHAT NEXT?"

Date: 2009-01-17 07:20 pm (UTC)Omg, me too. I think they're repeating the emo!angst too often with him. By this point, I'm just going, "Okay, get out of the way, and let someone else be in charge." And I generally like Adama, but way to make Dee's death all about you. Argh.
She was reborn, but not as a cylon... so what is she?
I really, really want to know what Kara is now. Leoben's reaction to her was priceless.

Date: 2009-01-18 06:10 am (UTC)I adore your icon! Is Sam talking about a mess of Daniels? ;)
How'd you feel about Ellen being the fifth?

Date: 2009-01-18 09:40 pm (UTC)Inorite? So odd, and that makes the whole cycle their fault, what! :P I was kind of hoping for Cain, or Roslin, or Elosha.
It was kind of disappointing to learn that they hadn't figured out who all the cylons were in advance, but just picked characters

Date: 2009-01-19 06:42 pm (UTC)Yeah, Adama and even EJO's acting was irritating... it was so over the top!
Nice icon. I still can't believe ELLEN is the fifth cylon. Seems like a waste. I hope they make it worth it... I was really hoping for Roslin ;) MM could act the hell out of that storyline. Instead, it appears that Tigh and Ellen have the love of all time... who would have thought it?
