Surprisingly annoyed...
Apr. 20th, 2008 07:57 pmSo I bought Seasons 2 and 3 of The Office finally... I'd seen all of season 1 and 2, and most of 3. I'm missing a couple of eps, and just can't bring myself to watch them.
Now I've watched all the commentaries on season 2 (and it made me love the show even more) and then decided to skip ahead to the eps of season 3 I like and watch those commentaries... and I'm rather underwhelmed. What's up with the silence of John Krasinski? He had such cute banter with Jenna Fischer in season 2, and he says barely a word in "The Job" commentary, much less in "The Coup" commentary. It's really annoying. What's the point of sitting in to comment on something if you don't actually y'know... comment?
I was thinking about how easy it is to get disappointed or pleasantly surprised by the way actors comment on DVDs. For example, I love Amanda Tapping and Martin Wood talking on the Stargate DVDs, but can't really stand hearing Ron talk on the BSG DVDs. I enjoy hearing Jenna talk on The Office DVDS, and was really happy with BJ Novak and Mindy Kaling, too, which was surprising. I think good commentators add something to what's happening on the scene, and give some interesting background information to how it came about, and what they were thinking, etc.... but they're not overly pretentious about it. They're just as excited to share the information and make the viewer watching appreciate it on a whole new level.
