... in the land of continual internet use. Sadly, though, my sister continues on the BSG marathon without me... We got up to Pegasus together, which she watched by herself (only to call me, aghast at Admiral Cain and wanting me to reassure her that Cain wasn't going to stick around).

So I didn't get to fully write about things that I noticed upon rewatching as well as interesting reactions my sister had... so here we go:

in Home, Part 1, my sister didn't think Lee was sincere when telling Kara that he was there if she wanted to talk, and that he loved her. I defended him, saying it must be hard to approach such a hard subject matter with someone as volatile and not prone to talking as Kara... her response? "Anders did just fine with her."

Heh. My sister seriously loves Anders and Kara together, though she does like Lee, only she thinks he's stupid too much of the time.

I watched LDYB 2 (BSG is the best show to workout to, by the way), and I was struck by the fact that Kara and Sam only hug after seeing each other... I don't think they're portrayed as "lost one true loves suddenly reunited," but kindred spirits... they're friends, which surprised me. I always saw them as a romantic connection, but they do get along really well. He teases her, she teases back... it's a light-hearted friendship but one that obviously evolves, especially since he knows all about her past. I think she just clicks with him, and those relationships are always engrossing, even if they're not romantic.

Everytime I watch an older ep, I'm reminded how much I miss Billy. He really tempered Roslin, because I don't think I noticed how hardcore and manipulative she is... I mean, she definitely got tougher as the show went on, but watching again with the end of season 3 in mind, I can see how she got to where she is at the end of Crossroads. Interesting, also, in "Six Degrees of Separation," how Roslin believes in her gut instinct that Baltar is guilty of something, even if it's not the crime that Shelly Godfrey charges him with, and she wants action taken regardless. Gives new meaning to the whole "all of this has happened before, and will happen again" refrain.

Anyways, Billy rocks, and he's kind of everything that Lee wishes he could be, which is ironic, because in the end, Billy wished he could be like Lee and be a "man" in Dualla's frosted eyeshadowed eyes.

Which brings me to my next subject... Dualla. Okay, when I first saw season 1 and 2, I didn't really care about Dualla, but thought that she and Billy were cute, but they didn't take up much of my attention. My sister, on her first run through, does not like Dualla (even without me saying anything), and definitely does not think that Dee is good enough for Billy. And that surprised me... but not as much as my sudden growing dislike of Dee, as well. Seriously, she gets on my nerves, just seeing her on screen. And it's not because she's bland (or the resigned holier than thou martyr of a wife that she plays in the third season), but I just don't think she's that good of a person... or not my type of person, I guess.

Dee is Miss Popular. She hangs out with the pilots, attributes her presence on the observation deck to the CAP doing a flyby (like there weren't 20 other people there in "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down") and she kind of revels that she's in a position where she hears/knows things, and can share those things, even if she definitely freakin' shouldn't, particularly to her boyfriend who's questioning her about her boss. She calls Billy on his motives, but he's more upset than she is that he had to do it. She gets off on the fact that her boyfriend is an advisor the President. And the way they go so up and down... she likes being in control, and she wants to call the shots. Billy's just along for the ride, and he seems so bewildered/infatuated/in love with her, that he doesn't really question whatever she asks or says.

She's a social climber, and I really think that for her, Lee is the next logical (and most approachable) step in her bid to be wanted. Coupled with her great ole' daddy issues, and how much she wants to be indispensible to Adama, Dee's pursuit of Lee will get her want she wants. And just in case it doesn't happen how she wants it to, she keeps Billy as a backup. She doesn't want to be alone, without any cache of social power.

This isn't to say she's not good at her job. She's cool-headed, and calm, and did a great job of getting Adama to put the fleet back together. But it's not only her position in the military that she wants to advance; it's her position in the order of society.

That's why I can't stand Dee... she's manipulative, but she's doing it to benefit herself, not the future of civilization like Roslin does.

Also, the girl has to run out of makeup at some point. Dear makeup department, stop giving her glittery or frosted eyeshadow, and cut down on the blush... I know everyone's wearing makeup, but she just looks ridiculous.
